Autism Centers
The Journey Center provides two autism centers located in Altoona, PA. Our Byron Avenue location provides services to approximately 28 center based children. Our Broad Avenue location opening in the fall provides services to approximately 16 center based children.
Both centers have individual and group therapy rooms, a gross motor room, speech and occupational therapy rooms, a group instruction area, and a play area. Many natural play items are present to spark the curiosity of our learners, including a light table, a group play area, sporting equipment, bikes, wagons, and scooters for use in the community (adaptable if needed), and trampolines. The center also has puzzles, a complete library, play therapy kits, and a calendar area complete with a promethean board.
The building is easily accessible with a ramp and has upstairs and downstairs accommodations. There are two spacious restrooms, one with a complete shower to work on life skills. A full size cafeteria is present, equipped with modern appliances and spacious seating.
The Byron center is close to downtown shopping centers where children may work on community goals, and a playground is also close. Our building is also secured by video surveillance and keycard entry for state of the art protection.
Each therapy room is adapted to our learner’s specific needs and interests. Some items present may include adaptive seating, therapy balls, sensory items, safe mat areas, adaptive lighting, and a soft play area. We collaborate with other service providers to make sure that our learners have all the tools they need to be successful at this center.
