Life Skills
Our learner’s may have the need for life skills in their treatment goals. We want our clients to be as successful in their independence as currently possible. Like other behaviors, this behavior can be shaped, based on client need, and current level of ability. Tying shoes, showering, adaptive eating and drinking, and other goals may be entered into learning through the use of a total task analysis which breaks the items down into small teachable increments. Our learners may also learn how to keep their environment clean by wiping off tables, sweeping the floor, and picking up their rooms.
The center is close to community shops and restaurants that encourage the use of monetary skills and practicing safe community inclusion. Occupational therapy and physical therapy can assist with the implementation of goals as necessary with gait or range of motion concerns.
